John Monahan is from Minnesota and resided there until 1974 when he moved to San Francisco. A graduate of University of St Thomas in 1973 with a BA in Sociology and Theology, he also earned a Masters in Public Health from UCLA. John who resides in Agoura Hills, CA and Palm Springs worked in the insurance industry, including 28 years at WellPoint (now Anthem), where he capped his career as President of State Sponsored Programs, a program for government sponsored low-income individuals and families.
John invests in commercial real estate, including the former Alan Ladd Building, a 33,000 sq. ft. landmark in downtown Palm Springs which he converted to The Five Hundred, a Class A office and retail center.
John is a member of the Board of Trustees for the Palm Springs Art Museum, an Architecture and Design Center Founder, an exhibition sponsor, and sponsors the Annenberg Theater Take Your Seat! campaign.
